Kate Nelischer

After transferring from journalism to landscape architecture during my undergraduate degree, I became aware of the strong correlations between the two disciplines and realized that I didn’t have to give one up to pursue the other. This course is a natural progression in cementing the relationship between my backgrounds in writing and design.

Having lived in and traveled to many different cities around the world, I am interested in the ways by which design shapes community, and how people inform design. Communication between designers and users is often restricted to purely visual interactions, which is why I hope to expand these discourses through writing as an accessible medium for conversations about design.

This course is helping me to shape the position from which I critique and write. It is allowing me to fully engage with processes of creating and communicating, both which are inherent to design and writing.
