Katie Coleman

I work as a web designer and (not-so) secret Spectacle botherer.

Why did I choose this course?

I often feel guilty about designing for commercial purposes and question the value of what designers do.

Design is as much about thinking as it is designing, and this course provides the perfect place to channel my thoughts into wider debates.

What have I learnt so far?

I've learnt far more than my brain can unscramble this early on, but here is an attempt at coherency:

  • Write to be read and consider the purpose of every word.
  • Design is a mass of tangled threads that we're only just beginning to unravel and reconnect.
  • Researching with rigour whilst juggling colliding contexts, histories, and debates is not an easy task.
  • Everyone's a writer, but not everyone can write (successfully).
