Anna Lisa Reynolds
I began my studies with a degree in Illustration from the University of Westminster, graduating in 2009, but by the time that I'd completed my undergraduate studies I was aware that my interest in becoming a practitioner was waning. I was keen instead to continue to explore and interrogate visual communication and culture through writing, and pursue my personal interest in the convergences within these areas - between practice and theory, between disciplines and divisions, and between design and everyday life.
Intrigued by the possibility of improving both my written skills and my understanding of design, I joined the MA with an open mind and somewhat undefined ambitions. At the risk of sounding trite, it's been a mind-altering experience. The course has introduced me to innumerable, diverse aspects of design and demonstrated how rigorous, experimental and precise critical writing can be a powerful tool with which to think and communicate. It's also unearthed a long-dormant love of writing itself - of the nuances, frustrations and joys of the process, and the satisfaction of the finished article. I'm now keen to pursue a career as a design writer, and to continue exploring and interrogating design, in all its forms, through the medium of the written word.
