Xanthia Hallissey
I graduated from Kingston University in 2010 with a degree in Graphic Design and more questions than I began with; what is a designer’s role? Is there a required standard? Is criticism important? Design Writing Criticism has provided me with an opportunity to engage critically with these questions, to try to make sense of a practice in transition.
Studying Design Criticism has inevitably fed into my own design practice by challenging my priorities. Increasing my understanding and awareness of design debates can only have a positive effect. Criticism should enrich the subject and help push things forward in new and exciting directions. Words can take you anywhere.
