Krisztina Somogyi

I am a critic of design and architecture. As the editor of the forum PLUSMINUS: visual intelligence, I try to help authors in their own development, but also in their interpretation of the public. I examine the different manifestations (architecture, interior design, typography and graphic design) of visual culture together with their collaboration.

The first important exhibition I organized was in Pécs in 1994 entitled New Typo, opened by Rick Poynor. The aim was to present international graphic achievements to the Hungarian public. Ever since, I have tried to find common platforms for international and Central European designers to help further communication within the region.

As a curator and jury member of exhibitions, writer of books and publications and film maker, I try to use a wide range of mediums to reach a large audience because I think design is not a matter restricted to designers but an important issue for everyday life. The quality of our visual environment is as much a question of ethics as aesthetics for me.

I am co-founder of ARTICSÓK Stúdió (with graphic designer Zsolt Czakó), one of the best known Hungarian design studios. I have taught architecture with the post-graduate course in the Public Building Design Department at the Faculty of Architecture, BME Budapest, since 2005.

This year in London is about change for me. Learning more about English culture, understanding the shifts in design and in design criticism is an interesting adventure. I am here to perceive new details and shades, to see the world from different angles.
